Matchmaking is the process of trying to find you the most similar opponent in terms of skill when you queue to play a game. All matchmaking in Legion, even in Casual mode, is made based on your ELO score. Players with similar ELO scores are expected to be similarly skilled.
ELO is a rating system originally developed for chess but now widely used in various competitive games. It assigns each player a numerical score that increases or decreases based on their performance against other rated players. At the end of every Ranked game, your ELO is increased in case of victory, or decreased in case of defeat, depending on ELO rating of the opponent.
When there are few players queuing, it might take longer to find a match. Moreover, the gap in ELO score might be bigger, as the algorithm gradually expands the ELO restriction in order for you not to have to wait too long to play.
In Casual mode, if the waiting time becomes too long, you will be redirected to a game against an AI, but will get all the rewards of a normal Casual game.
Players queuing for games is the lifeblood of Legion, as it maintains a large pool of players to perform matchmaking. As a result, to reward you for queuing, you will receive gold at regular intervals, indicated in the interface! The longer you queue, the more gold you earn. Thank you for your patience!
