# Overview

## Gameplay

Legion is 1-vs-1 online game, played in a 2D top-down arena. You control several characters on the battlefield against the characters of the opponent. To win, kill all of your opponent's characters before they kill yours!

When it is one of your character's turns, they will be automatically selected. Once selected you can:

* Order them to move by clicking on one of the blue tiles displaying their movement range.
* Click on an enemy character to perform a melee attack. If they are on an adjacent cell, the attack will take place; if not, your character will move towards them.
* Cast a spell by clicking on its icon and then on a target.
* Use an item by clicking on its icon.

## Player Dashboard

You can manage your team and your inventory via the 4 main pages of the player dashboard:

* [Play page](/player-dashboard/play-page): start a game, claim your daily rewards or go spectate another player's ongoing game;
* [Team page](/player-dashboard/team-page): manage your team by spending skill points to improve stats, managing equipment and consumables, and teaching spells;
* [Shop page](/player-dashboard/shop-page): buy consumables, equipment, spells or new team members;
* [Rank page](/player-dashboard/rank-page): check out your ranking and your friend's the seasonal leagues as well as on the all-time leaderboard!

## A typical play session

A typical evening for a player can look like the following:

* Log in, notice you have some daily loot available
* Jump into a casual game to start the evening and unlock the key to the daily loot
* You play a fun short game against another opponent and you earn some gold, some potions and some experience for your characters; good news, one of your characters leveled-up and earned some Stat Points (SP)!
* You open your daily loot reward and get some new sword
* You head to the Team page to spend the SP your character to boost some of his stats. It's a Warrior, so you decide to boost HP and ATK.
* At the same time you equip on him the new sword you earned, and equip your potions across all your characters
* You head to the shop and spend some of your gold to buy a better staff for your mage, and you go equip it on him
* Now that your team is a bit stronger, time for a ranked game. You are on the Silver league and if you gain two more ranks, you might be promoted to the Gold league at the end of the week!
* The evening continues with several ranked games and making your team stronger with the rewards you earn

# Quick start

Once you have created an account and received your first three characters, you can start playing immediately!

1. **Practice Games**: On the Play page, click on the "Practice" icon to start a few games against AI opponents. This helps you get a feel for the game mechanics. \[Screenshot]
2. **Earn and Learn**: Even if you don't win all your practice games, you'll still earn gold, and your characters will gain XP and possibly level up.
3. **Explore Your Team**: Between combats, visit the Team page to:
   * Learn more about your characters
   * Spend SP (Stat Points) to increase their stats
   * Equip items you've earned
4. **Shop for Upgrades**: If you have enough gold, visit the Shop to purchase equipment for your characters.
5. **Face Other Players**: Once you're comfortable with the game mechanics (usually after 3-5 practice games), try playing against other players in Casual or Ranked mode!

As you progress and acquire more characters, pay attention to your team composition to create a balanced and effective squad.

Remember, the key to success in Legion is continuous improvement and strategic thinking. Have fun and may your tactics lead you to victory!

# Key concepts

Legion is 1-vs-1 online game, played in a 2D top-down arena. You control several characters on the battlefield against the characters of the opponent. To win, kill all of your opponent's characters before they kill yours!

All games are 1 vs 1, meaning one player (you) versus another single player (one of your friend or any other player). However, each player can have from 3 to 6 characters on the battlefield, so one game can see a team of 6 characters vs 4, or 3 vs 3, or any combination of numbers.

**Player:** the human behind the keyboard or phone.

**Character:** a playable unit that you can recruit, train, and use in the arena. Each player can have from 3 to 6 characters.

**Team:** the set of characters a player can deploy in a game.

Each character has a certain amount of Hit Points ([HP](/gameplay/core-mechanics#hp-mp-and-stats)). To win, you must kill all the characters of the opponent's team, by reducing the HP of all their characters to 0. This can be done by inflicting damage in various ways: direct attacks, [spells](/gameplay/items-and-spells#spells), setting the [terrain](/gameplay/terrain-effects) on fire, etc.

To prevent your opponent from winning, you must conversely preserve your character's HP, by healing them, resurrecting them, increasing their defense, or killing the enemy faster!

# Interface

1. The arena: the set of cells your [characters](/gameplay/key-concepts) can move and act on
2. Your characters (characters within dark blue squares are yours)
3. Enemy characters (characters within red squares are the opponent's)
4. Selected character: the selected character is highlighted in white, and the blue cells around it represent where this character can move
5. Overview of your [team](/gameplay/key-concepts)
6. Overview of the opponent's team
7. Selected character's overview
8. Timer until the end of your character's turn
9. [Consumables](/gameplay/items-and-spells#items) equipped on the selected character
10. [Spells](/gameplay/items-and-spells#spells) known by the selected character
11. Turn order timeline
12. Your player box: avatar, name and rank
13. The opponent's box: avatar, name and rank

# Controls

When a character's turn starts, that character is automatically selected.

The tiles where this character can move have a blue tint. Click on any of these tiles to order your character to move there.

Alternatively, you can also perform a **melee attack** on any enemy character located on an adjacent tile to the selected character by clicking on that enemy character.

If you click an enemy character that is not on an adjacent tile, this will instead order your character to move towards them.

Once a character is selected, their character tab appears at the top of the screen:

The main actions that this offers are: using [items](/gameplay/items-and-spells#items) or casting [spells](/gameplay/items-and-spells#spells). In both cases, you can click/tap the icon of the item/spell you want to use, or use the keyboard shortcut indicated in at the bottom-right of the icon.

Most items work on the selected character and do not require selecting a target. On the contrary, most spells require a target. Therefore after clicking a spell, you will need to click on the location of the arena where you wish to cast it. In the meantime, a summary of the spell information is displayed, and if you are using a mouse, hovering the arena will display the expected area of effect of the spell.

# Core Mechanics

Legion's gameplay revolves around several key mechanics that form the foundation of strategic combat:

* **Turns System**: Characters act one by one according to a turn order which is affected by their speed and their actions.
* **Stats (HP, MP, ATK, DEF, SPATK, SPDEF, SPEED)**: Define character strengths and weaknesses.
* **Experience and Leveling**: Allows characters to grow stronger over time.
* **Gold Economy**: Enables purchasing of items, equipment, and characters.
* [**Character Classes**](/gameplay/character-classes): Determines specializations and abilities.
* [**Items and Spells**](/gameplay/items-and-spells): Provide tactical options during combat.
* [**Status Effects**](/gameplay/status-effects): Alter character performance temporarily.
* [**Terrain Effects**](/gameplay/terrain-effects): Modify the battlefield, adding strategic depth.
* [**Audience System**](/gameplay/audience): Rewards impressive plays with bonus rewards.

Understanding these core mechanics is crucial for mastering Legion's gameplay and developing winning strategies. Each of these elements is explained in detail in this page and the following sections.

## Turns System

The initial order of turns of the characters is determined by their **SPEED** stat. All characters are then arranged in that order on the Timeline at the bottom of the screen:

The timeline indicates the following information:

* In which orders the character will act
* Which team each character belongs to (blue is yours, red is the enemy)
* Which [class](/gameplay/character-classes) each character belongs to

Once you character performs an action, they will end their turn and be pushed down the timeline, more or less so depending on the **speed class** of their action.

Each action, item and spell has a speed class that determines how long a character will need to wait until their next turn. Actions can either be FAST, NORMAL or SLOW.

The potion is a FAST item

Attacking is a NORMAL action, moving is FAST, and items and spells have different speed classes depending on their power.

You can also elect to PASS your character's turn, which makes their next turn come up even faster than with a FAST action.

When it is your character's turn, they have 7 seconds to perform an action before their turn end. If their turn ends without any action having been done, the speed penalty is equivalent to one of a NORMAL action.

## HP, MP & stats

All character have 6 stats that govern their performance in combat:

* **HP:** The health of the character. Decreases when taking damage. If it goes to 0, the character dies and can't act until resurrected. HP can be recovered using spells or potions and are automatically replenished after each game.
* **MP:** Use to cast spells. Decreases when casting spells. Different spells have different MP costs, if a character doesn't have enough MP they cannot cast a spell. MP can be recovered using potions and are automatically replenished after each game.
* **ATK:** The higher the atk, the higher the damage done with weapons.
* **DEF:** The higher the def, the lower the damage received from weapons.
* **SPATK:** The higher the spatk, the higher the damage done with spells.
* **SPDEF:** The higher the spdef, the lower the damage received from spells.
* **SPEED**: The higher the speed, the more often you character will have a turn to act.

The last 5 stats, ATK, DEF, SPATK, SPDEF and SPEED cannot change during combat.

When a character levels up, they earn SP that can be spent to increase all 6 stats.

You can consult the stats of your character by selecting characters in the [Team page](/player-dashboard/team-page) of your player dashboard.

## XP, Leveling-up and SP

Each character starts at level 1. As they participate in games, they earn experience (XP) based on their contributions to the game. As they accumulate XP they can increase their level.

Each time a character gains a level, they earn Stat Points (SP) that can be spent in the [character sheet](/player-dashboard/team-page#character-sheet) to increase their stats.

## Gold

At the end of each game, you earn a certain amount of gold: a small amount in Practice [mode](/player-dashboard/play-page#game-modes), a normal amount in Casual, and bigger amounts in Ranked. Gold is displayed in the top right corner of the player dashboard.

In addition, gold can also be earned by [queuing](/player-dashboard/queue-page#queuing-rewards), or as a reward in some chests!

Gold can be used to buy [consumables](/player-dashboard/team-page#inventory), equipment, spells and even new characters to add to your team. Therefore earning gold is a key activity to help you increase the strength of your team!

# Character classes

The characters that compose your team can each belong to one of three classes:

* Warrior
* White Mage
* Black Mage

A class can be seen as a specialization, it determines some of the things your characters can and cannot do. It also impacts the starting stats of a character. When buying new characters in the [shop](/player-dashboard/shop-page#characters), make sure to keep their class in mind to achieve the right team composition!

## Warriors

Warriors specialize in physical, close-range combat. They cannot learn spells but have access to more powerful equipment and start with more [HP](/gameplay/core-mechanics#hp-mp-and-stats), [ATK](/gameplay/core-mechanics#hp-mp-and-stats) ans [DEF](/gameplay/core-mechanics#hp-mp-and-stats).

Warriors have a smaller range of possible actions but tend to last longer on the field and can reliably inflict damage.

## White Mages

White Mages can use [spells](/gameplay/items-and-spells#spells) and provide tactical utility on the battlefield, from beneficial spells such as healing, to harmful spells that can inflict status effects on the enemy characters such as poisoning or silencing. They have access to Mages equipment and start with higher [MP](/gameplay/core-mechanics#hp-mp-and-stats), [SP. ATK ](/gameplay/core-mechanics#hp-mp-and-stats)and [SP. DEF](/gameplay/core-mechanics#hp-mp-and-stats).

White Mages and mages in general are more fragile, but armed with the right spells they can really help take control of the situation on the battlefield or flip a non-favorable outcome.

## Black Mages

Black Mages can learn different spells than the White Mages, typically aggressive, damage-dealing elemental spells. They have access to Mages equipment and start with higher [MP](/gameplay/core-mechanics#hp-mp-and-stats), [SP. ATK ](/gameplay/core-mechanics#hp-mp-and-stats)and [SP. DEF](/gameplay/core-mechanics#hp-mp-and-stats). Properly used, Black Mages can take the role of heavy artillery on the battlefield, provided that they can be protected well.

| Best Used For | Reliable damage output, lasting longer in battle | Healing, buffing allies, debuffing enemies | Dealing high damage to multiple enemies |

# Items & Spells

## Items

In your player dashboard, you can equip **consumable** items, such as potions, onto your characters for them to use in combat. These items can be very useful as they can restore [HP](/gameplay/core-mechanics#hp-mp-and-stats), [MP](/gameplay/core-mechanics#hp-mp-and-stats) or resurrect a dead character for example. See [here](/player-dashboard/team-page#inventory) for more information on equipping consumables.

To use an item in combat, select a character with an item equipped and click/tap on the item icon, or use the keyboard binding in the corner of the icon.

Once used, the item is gone forever! Using an item will also end your character's turn.

Items whose effect is not applicable or cannot be applied at the moment will not be used, e.g. if you try to drink a potion with a character at full health, the potion will not be consumed.

Most items act on the character holding them, e.g. if you use a potion, the selected character will use that potion on themself. There are some exceptions such as the Clover that requires you to select one of your (dead) characters as a target.

You can find out more about which target will be affected by checking the item details in the [inventory](/player-dashboard/team-page#inventory):

* A target of SELF means the item will be used by the selected character
* A target of SINGLE means that the item can be used on a single character on the field, by clicking on that character once the item is selected

Items can be obtained as rewards at the end of games, at the end of seasons or as [daily loot](/player-dashboard/play-page#daily-loot) rewards, as well as bought in the [shop](/player-dashboard/shop-page) using gold.

## Spells

In your player dashboard, you can [teach spells](/player-dashboard/team-page#inventory) to your characters for them to use in combat. Spells are a crucial component of the gameplay, as their wide range of effects can allow things such as:

* Healing
* Inflicting massive damage
* Inflicting damage to multiple enemies at once
* Inflicting or curing [status effects](/gameplay/status-effects) such a poison, paralyziz, ...
* Modifying the [terrain](/gameplay/terrain-effects) by creating flames or ice blocks

To use a spell in combat, select a character with an item equipped and click/tap on the spell icon, or use the keyboard binding in the corner of the icon.

Spells can be used as often as you want as long as your character has enough [MP](/gameplay/core-mechanics#hp-mp-and-stats). Using a spell will end your character's turn.

Most spells are Are of Effect (AoE) spells, meaning that the target will be a location on the battlefield. Spells take some amount of time to cast, after which their effect is applied to any characters located in the area of effect of the spell. Therefore, make sure to time your spells right, and to be ready to evade enemy spells by moving your characters out of range!

Spells can be obtained as rewards at the end of games, at the end of seasons or as [daily loot](/player-dashboard/play-page#daily-loot) rewards, as well as bought in the [shop](/player-dashboard/shop-page) using gold.

# Status Effects

Certain [spells](/gameplay/items-and-spells#spells) allow you to inflict status effects to enemy characters to degrade their performance. Most effects have a limited duration, lasting for a certain amount of turns.

* **Poisoned:** the character loses some [HP](/gameplay/core-mechanics#hp-mp-and-stats) at regular intervals; caused by the Poison spell; can be cured by using an Antidote or a Remedy.
* **Silenced**: the character cannot use spells; caused by the Silence spell; can be cured by using a Bocca or a Remedy.
* **Paralyzed:** the character cannot move or do anything for the duration of the effect; chance of being caused by thunder spells; cannot be cured.
* **Frozen:** similar as paralysis; caused by ice spells; permanent until the ice is broken (using a melee attack or a fire spell).

A poisoned character

The duration of a status effect affecting one of your characters is displayed at the top of the screen when they are selected.

This character is poisoned for 9 more turns

When a character dies, all status effects are removed. They are not reapplied if the character is revived, so death can sometimes be a good option to get rid of these!

# Terrain Effects

Certain [spells](/gameplay/items-and-spells#spells), in addition to their main effect, can also have an impact the battlefield, generating different kind of terrains:

* **Fire:** fire spells can set the ground on fire, leaving flames that will cause damage to anyone crossing through them. If a character keeps standing in flames, they will incur damage each time their turn starts. Flames can be extinguished with ice spells.
* **Ice blocks:** ice spells will generate ice blocks that can imprison characters caught in them and/or constitute obstacles that other characters need to move around of. Ice blocks can be destroyed by melee attacks and fire spells.

A frozen character next to some burning ground

# Audience

All matches take place in an arena with an invisible audience cheering for the combatants. Every action that takes place during the combat can impress the audience to some extent.

In [Casual](/player-dashboard/play-page#game-modes) and [Ranked](/player-dashboard/play-page#game-modes) mode, impressing the audience leads to extra rewards awarded at the end of the game!

These rewards are obtained regardless of whether you win or lose and can be a consolation or a nice cherry on top of the cake, depending on the situation. The higher the audience score, the higher the reward!

It is unknown what exactly impresses the audience the most; if you want to become a crowd pleaser and reap these rewards, you need to experiment until you find out the best way to impress it!

# Game End

The game ends when all the characters from one team have their [HP](/gameplay/core-mechanics#hp-mp-and-stats) reduced to 0. At the end of a game, you can receive 3 types of rewards:

* [XP](/gameplay/core-mechanics#xp-leveling-up-and-sp) to level-up your characters
* Items
* [Gold](/gameplay/core-mechanics#gold)

This is the screen that appears at the end of a game to indicate the outcome and the various rewards.

1. Your outcome: victory or defeat
2. Total [XP](/gameplay/core-mechanics#xp-leveling-up-and-sp) earned
3. Gold earned
4. Grade (see below)
5. XP rewards per character and potential level-ups
6. Gold, item rewards and keys you earned (click/tap on a chest to see its content)

### Combat grade

Add the end of each game, you get a letter grade for your performance. The possible grades are the following, from best to worst:

* S+
* S
* A
* B
* C
* D

Your grade has an influence on how much XP and gold you earn after a game. The exact formulas leading to your grade are secret and it is for you to experiment to learn how to get the best grades, but the general idea is that the more efficient a killing machine your team is, the higher the grade!

# Play page

On the Play page you can start a game and claim your daily rewards!

## Team composition

This section gives you an overview of your characters. Clicking on one of them leads to their [character sheet](/player-dashboard/team-page#character-sheet) in the [Team page](/player-dashboard/team-page).

1. Character name
2. Character [class](/gameplay/character-classes)
3. Character [level](/gameplay/core-mechanics#xp-leveling-up-and-sp)
4. Character appearance
5. Button leading to the character [shop](/player-dashboard/shop-page)

## Game modes

From there you can start a game in 3 different modes: Practice, Casual or Ranked. When you click Casual or Ranked modes, you are redirected to the [queue page](/player-dashboard/queue-page).

### Practice

Practice mode allows you to experiment with new [items](/gameplay/items-and-spells), strategies and [spells](/gameplay/items-and-spells) immediately without having to queue for a game with other players. You are immediately matched with an AI team of similar strength as yours.

Winning or losing in practice mode does not impact your [ELO](/player-dashboard/queue-page#elo-and-matchmaking) or any other stats. On the other hand, you can NOT win keys for [daily loot ](/player-dashboard/play-page#daily-loot)in this mode, you do not earn [audience](/gameplay/audience) rewards, you do not earn [gold](/gameplay/core-mechanics#gold) and the [XP](/gameplay/core-mechanics#xp-leveling-up-and-sp) rewards are very low.

One of the bots of Practice mode

### Casual

Casual mode is a PvP mode that pits you against other players of similar ELO. As a result you need to queue for some time before a matching player can be found (see [Queuing](/player-dashboard/queue-page) section).

Winning or losing in casual mode does not impact your ELO or any other stats. In this mode you can win keys for daily loot, you can earn audience rewards, you can earn gold and you earn normal XP rewards.

### Ranked

Ranked mode is the most intense PvP mode, pitting you against players of similar ELO who are in the same league as you (see the [Rank Page](/player-dashboard/rank-page) for more information on the leagues system). As a result queuing time can be a bit longer before a suitable opponent is found.

Winning or losing in ranked mode will directly impact your ELO score and the various competitive stats that are kept track of (number of wins, losses, win streaks...). Playing in this mode can reward daily loot keys, audience rewards, and larger gold and XP rewards.

## Daily loot

The daily loot consists in 3 chests that you can claim at regular intervals:

* Bronze chest: every 6 hours, contains 1 reward
* Silver chest: every 12 hours, contains 2 slightly better rewards
* Gold chest: every 24 hours, contains 2 better rewards

The rewards of each chest can be consumables, gold, equipment or spells, of increasing value depending of the chest (bronze chests have the least valuable rewards, gold chests the most valuable).

1. Chest type
2. Countdown until you can earn the key for the chest
3. Whether you won the key for that chest yet
4. Indicates that the chest can be opened

Once the countdown for a chest reaches 0, it becomes possible to win the key to open it. To win a key, just play a Casual or Ranked game (you will win the key whether you win or lose the game). You can then open the chest and claim the reward, which will reset the timer for that chest. You can only win one key per game.

# Queue page

## ELO & Matchmaking

Matchmaking is the process of trying to find you the most similar opponent in terms of skill when you queue to play a game. All matchmaking in Legion, even in Casual mode, is made based on your ELO score. Players with similar ELO scores are expected to be similarly skilled.

ELO is a rating system originally developed for chess but now widely used in various competitive games. It assigns each player a numerical score that increases or decreases based on their performance against other rated players. At the end of every Ranked game, your ELO is increased in case of victory, or decreased in case of defeat, depending on ELO rating of the opponent.

When there are few players queuing, it might take longer to find a match. Moreover, the gap in ELO score might be bigger, as the algorithm gradually expands the ELO restriction in order for you not to have to wait too long to play.

In Casual mode, if the waiting time becomes too long, you will be redirected to a game against an AI, but will get all the rewards of a normal Casual game.

## Queuing rewards

Players queuing for games is the lifeblood of Legion, as it maintains a large pool of players to perform matchmaking. As a result, to reward you for queuing, you will receive **gold** at regular intervals, indicated in the interface! The longer you queue, the more gold you earn. Thank you for your patience!

# Team page

On this page you can manage your team by spending Stat Points ([SP](/gameplay/core-mechanics#xp-leveling-up-and-sp)) to improve your character's [stats](/gameplay/core-mechanics#hp-mp-and-stats), managing equipment and consumables, and teaching [spells](/gameplay/items-and-spells#spells) to your characters.

## Team composition

This section lists all your characters. Click on one to display its character sheet.

### Inventory

This panel lists all the items you own, split into three categories:

* **Consumables:** can be equipped by your characters in order to be used in combat. They are consumed and disappear when used. An example of a consumable is a health potion.
* **Equipment**: can be equipped by your characters permanently in order to boost their stats and make them more effective in combat. Their effect is passive and always applied during combat. Equipment can be unequipped and re-equipped at will. An example of equipment is a sword.
* **Spells**: can be taught to your characters so that they can be used in combat. Spells can be used in combat repeatedly but cost some [MP](/gameplay/core-mechanics#hp-mp-and-stats) to cast.

1. Tabs to switch between the different items categories
2. Inventory capacity (how many items you own versus how many you can carry)
3. Icons of your items (click on them to interact)

From the inventory, the actions you can do are the following:

**Consult and equip consumables:** You can see the effect of a consumable by clicking on it. These effects are only applied when consuming the consumable in combat, after which the consumable is gone. Outside of combat you can freely unequip consumables from characters (see Character sheet below).

Each character has a limited number of item slots where consumables can be equipped, so you need to think carefully what to give to your characters. Only consumables can be equipped in item slots. Some pieces of equipment such as belts can increase the amount of item slots of a character.

**Consult and equip equipment:** By clicking on a piece of equipment, you can see its potential impact on the stats of your character and choose to equip it or not.

Equipment can be equipped and unequipped at will outside of combat. Each equipment piece fits in one specific equipment slot. If you equip something onto a slot where another equipment is already equipped, the previously equipped equipment will be removed and returned to your inventory.

Note that some [class](/gameplay/character-classes) restrictions can apply to equipment pieces, e.g. some swords can only be equipped by Warrior characters. Similarly, level restrictions can apply, requiring a character to be above a certain level to be able to equip something.

**Consult and learn spells**: You can click on spells to learn more about their effects and cost. This also allows you to teach spells to your characters.

Only characters who have free spell slots can learn new spells. Spells cannot be unlearned, free spell slots are therefore a limited resource so be careful which spell you teach which character!

See the [Spells](/gameplay/items-and-spells#spells) page for more information about spells.

# Rank page

On this page you can consult the various leaderboard to see how well you are ranking, how other players are faring, and if you can expect ranking rewards.

## Leagues & Ranking in Legion

There are 5 leagues in Legion: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Zenith and Apex. All new players start in the Bronze league and need to fight their way to the top of the Apex league. The higher the league, the more skilled and experienced the players!

Your rank in a league depends on the number of wins. The more wins, the better your rank. The exception is the All-time leaderboard where players are ranked by [ELO](/player-dashboard/queue-page#elo-and-matchmaking) instead.

Leagues have a temporal dimension: they are broken down in weekly seasons. This means that the ranking of all players within a league is reset every week. At the end of every season, the best players are promoted to the next league, the worst ones are demoted to the previous league, and the others stay in the same league but have their rank reset.

Check the leaderboard regularly to know how many wins you need to get to the next league!

## Season cards

1. Your current rank in the league you belong to
2. Your current league
3. Your current score or ELO rating (depending on the league), which determines your rank
4. Countdown until the end of the season

When the season ends, the following happens:

* The players in promotion rows get promoted to the next league
* The players in the demotion rows get demoted to the previous league
* The top 3 ranks receive ranking rewards
* All leagues are then reset

This happens for all leagues, except for the "All-time league" which is not really a league but simply an all-time leaderboard. It does not reset, there are no promotion or demotion rows, and there are no ranking rewards associated to it.

**Highlights**

These boxes highlight some players who are particularly standing out in the current league. This doesn't lead to any benefits, it's just for prestige!

## Leagues menu

This menu allow you to switch between the leaderboards of the different leagues:

1. Bronze league
2. Silver league
3. Gold league
4. Zenith league
5. Apex league
6. All-time league

As mentioned above, the all-time league is not a league per se but a permanent leaderboard.

## Leaderboard

1. Player rank
2. Rows with this marker are promotion rows, players in promotion rows at the end of the season get promoted to the next league
3. Rows with this marker are demotion rows, players in demotion rows at the end of the season get demoted to the previous league
4. Reward indicators; when the season end, players in rows with rewards receive a loot chest to reward them for their performance. Typically granted to the top 3 ranks. The higher the league, the better the rewards!

# Elysium

## Legion - Elysium

Elysium is a web3 play mode of [Legion](/) (playable at <https://www.play-legion.io>) where you can stake **SOL** tokens on winner-takes-all duels against other players!

Become the best Legion player you can and challenge your friends to high stakes SOL games!

### What is Legion?

Legion is a browser-based real-time tactical RPG. You can assemble a team of 3 to 10 characters and battle other players in the arena to climb the ranks of the 5 leagues!

{% embed url="<https://www.youtube.com/watch?ab_channel=Legion&v=VM6cGO-e2hY>" %}

### What is the Elysium mode

While Legion is primarily a web2 game, the Elysium mode offers the possibility to duel other players for crypto rewards.

More specifically, in Elysium you can create 1v1 games with specific SOL stakes, and the winner of the games takes it all, minus a 2% fee for the game.

This is the very same game and you will be using the same team of characters as in the web2 version. You can level-up your team and earn gold and items in the normal web2 play modes entirely for free and then choose to create or join staked games whenever you want.

### How to play

#### Setting up

First off, you need to **create a Legion account**, to receive your first 3 characters and get familiar with the game. Go to <https://www.play-legion.io> and click "Get started", which will take you through the tutorial.

Secondly, you need a **Solana wallet** in your browser. If you have one, Elysium will be listed on the `/play` page as an available Play Mode:

The secret Elysium play mode appears!

If you do not have a Solana wallet, this play mode will not be available! We recommend [Phantom wallet](https://phantom.app/) if you need one.

On the Elysium page, click select wallet to connect your wallet. This will allow you to use your funds to pay for stakes in games, in case your in-game balance is insufficient.

Once your wallet is connected, you can consult your SOL balances:

The **on-chain** balance is the balance of your crypto wallet. The **in-game** balance is basically the amount of SOL that the game owes you, which you can withdraw to your wallet at any time, or use to play more staked games without withdrawing from your on-chain wallet.

* When you stake SOL on a game but the game doesn't start, the stake is immediately refunded to your in-game balance.
* When you win a stake games, all your gains are credited to your in-game balance.
* If you create or join a staked game, the fee is taken from your in-game balance first.

#### Creating games

You can use the **create game** button to create your own game.

You can set the stake as you see fit. The stake is basically the entry fee for the game. E.g. if you set a stake of 0.1 SOL, it means both you and your opponent will pay 0.1 SOL each The winner of the game will then win 0.196 SOL (the sum of the 2 stakes minus a 2% fee).

Once the game is created, you will be redirected to the lobby screen.

There, you can wait until another player who sees your lobby decides to take you up on your challenge for the stake you set. Once a player joins your lobby, the game will start automatically! If you leave this screen, the lobby will be cancelled and the stake refunded to your in-game wallet.

#### Joining games

Alternatively, if there are already players who have created lobbies and are waiting for opponents, you will see their games listed on the Elysium page.

These cards show you what is the stake for the game, and provide some information about the skill level of the player (ELO rating and league ranking) for you to decide if you want to take your chances! Just click on the card to initiate the process of joining the game.
